Let’s Talk Bloating

What's the #1 PMS Symptom?  If you guessed bloating, you're correct. A whopping 71% of us experiencing it before (and often during) our period.  So, first thing, you aren’t alone!

During your cycle, your body experiences hormonal fluctuations and these hormonal changes can cause your body to retain water and sodium leading to that bloated feeling.

Here are 6 Simple Steps to help beat the bloat.

  1. Stay Hydrated - Drinking plenty of water can actually help reduce bloating. Try for at least eight glasses of water a day to flush out excess sodium and keep your digestive system moving smoothly.
  2. Swap out the bubbles - Carbonated beverages can cause gas and bloating, so try to focus on water and herbal teas.
  3. Move around – Movement like yoga or a walk can work wonders for reducing bloating and improving circulation.
  4. Soothe with heat – Explore applying heat to your abdomen to help relax cramped muscles and ease bloating. Try using a heating pad or taking a warm bath to soothe discomfort.
  5. Eat for your cycleCertain foods can exacerbate bloating, such as highly salty snacks and processed foods. Try to include hydrating foods like cucumber, watermelon, and leafy greens as part of your diet.
  6. Self-care – Listen to your body and get plenty of rest, prioritizing activities that promote relaxation like reading, meditating, or indulging in a favorite hobby.

Be kind to yourself, listen to your body and don’t hesitate to reach out to your besti if you need a little extra support.
